A group of concerned citizens is calling for the suspension of payment of K9.7 billion legal fees demand by the opposition MCP and UTM following the outcome of the Supreme Court judgement on the 2019 disputed Presidential elections.
Chairperson for the group Phillip Kamangila has made the call at a news conference on Tuesday in Lilongwe. The group is also demanding the judiciary to give justification as to how such an excessive figure was arrived at. The concerned citizens are demanding that the judiciary through the office of the Chief Justice should clarify why this matter is not taken seriously as opposed to the K600 million legal fees as earlier proposed by South African Lawyers who were scheduled to represent the Malawi Electoral Commission in the Presidential poll case.
