The High Court has nullified the election results in Phalombe North-East previously won by DPP legislator Anna Kachikho due to irregularities.
Judge Rowland Mbvundula, in his judgement has ordered a rerun and said that Anna Kachikho is ineligible to be a parliamentarian of the constituency.
The case was brought to court by an independent candidate Promise Salima who claimed that he triumphed but had his votes stolen from him.
A similar case also took place in Mangochi the Eastern Region where the elections were disqualified.
The High Court had received a lot of complaints regarding the 2019 elections of which most of them are still being heard.
Human rights activist Timothy Mtambo hailed the move by the courts and said it’s a sign of democracy and maturity of The Judiciary by being impartial in their judgements.
When Malawi Metro quizzed Kachikho on the matter she declined to comment as she said her lawyers may be in a better position to comment.
