President Peter Mutharika says for the sake of the nation, the whole nation should respect the verdict of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in respect of the fresh presidential election even when he is of the opinion that there were electoral irregularities.
Mutharika has begun addressing the nation with a position that the fresh presidential election was marred with irregularities. He is alleging that 12 DPP monitors are missing, that others were attacked in Balaka and Lilongwe including DPP Secretary General Gelzerder Jeffrey.
He further said that as a Party they will meet and arrange the way forward after the Malawi Electoral Commission Announces final results since some of the irregularities in the just ended election might have a greater impact on the out come. He further asked DPP supporters and peace loving Malawians to maintain peace as the Malawi Electoral Commission is still transmitting the final results.
Currently the Presidential elect candidate Lazarus Chakwera has been accorded a full presidential convoy with presidential guards and sirens accompanying it.
Political analysts have hailed Mutharika for a positive speech although they urge that he wasn’t clear whether they will accept or dispute the final results.
