The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Lazarus McCathy Chakwera and his vice Saulos Chilima have finally been sworn in today as the President and Vice President of the Republic of Malawi in a colorful ceremony held at Malawi Square in Lilongwe.
In his speech, after taking oath at the ceremony adminstered by Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda, Chakwera promised that, with the help of all Malawians, him and Chilima will restore Malawi for the future generations.
“Both of us, with your help, will have a government that serves, inspires and listens and not shout.
A government that fights for you and not against you,” He said .
Chakwera further stressed that it is an inclusive government for all Malawians who voted for him and those that did not vote for him.
“I want to tell you that this new Malawi is a home for everyone wheather you voted for me or not. Trust us and make this win a win for all of us. I am a duty bond by God and all of you to give you my best,” he explained.
The newly elected president of the republic of Malawi Dr Lazarus Chakwera has urged all those celebrating to celebrate with humility and avoid inciting violence.
