Police in the northern region say there is a 12 percent increase in the number of people who have died in road accidents in the first half of 2020 compared to the same time last year.
According to records provided by the regional headquarters Research and Planning office, 100
have died in road accidents in the first half 2020 compared to 89 people who lost their lives last
year.
However, the region has recorded 224 road accidents this year compared to 275 in 2019
representing a decrease of 19 percent.
In an interview with Malawi Metro News Northern Region Police Public Relations Officer, Peter Kalaya, however, said criminal cases have gone up by 8 percent as the region has registered 2687 compared to 2492 in 2019.
