Government has called on the Public Affairs Committee (PAC), as the first port of call, to urgently intervene and initiate a dialogue meeting with Christians and Muslims aimed at resolving the billboard issue at hand.
Government has made the call following a copy of the letter received by the office of the Minister of Civic Education and National Security, Hon. Timothy Pagonachi Mtambo dated 26th July, 2020.

Government has made the call following a copy of the letter received by the office of the Minister of Civic Education and National Security, Hon. Timothy Pagonachi Mtambo dated 26th July, 2020.
The letter lodges a complaint against the Islamic Information Bureau for erecting a Billboard at Maselema near Toyota Malawi in Limbe with a message that tactically portrays a comparison between the Bible and Quran….IF YOU HAVE READ THE OLD TESTAMENT AND THE NEW TESTAMENT, NOW READ THE LAST TESTAMENT – THE QURAN.
This is contained in a letter signed by the Minister responsible, Hon. Timothy Mtambo dated 29th July, 2020 with copies to Rev. Dr. Zacc Kawalala, Evangelical Association of Malawi[ EAM], the Chief Executive Officer and Mayor of Blantyre City Council, the Hon. Ministers , Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Home Affairs and Internal Security and Islamic Information Bureau.
In the letter, Hon. Mtambo says recognizing that this matter turns on peace, religious rights, most importantly, national unity, his office has deemed it pertinent to approach the PAC considering that both Islamic and Christian faith communities are affiliated to its principles and objectives that promote peaceful coexistence of different faith communities, among others.
The letter says his office is ready and willing to render any assistance that the PAC may require in executing this noble and urgent duty.

The letter by Evangelical Association of Malawi [ EAM ] to the Chief Executive Officer, Blantyre City Council says churches in the city are disturbed with the message displayed on the Billboard, demanding the City Council in the spirit of peace and coexistence to immediately remove the provocative message within the next 7 days.
But, on a very sad note, the Billboard was destroyed on the night of Wednesday, the 28th of July, 2020, without the authorities handling the matter as received.
Meanwhile, Muvi wa Chilungamo has asked government to find out on who accepted the Billboard to be erected, the reasons behind it and the law followed,saying care must be taken when handling the matter reminding Malawians that in 2012, soon after Madame Dr. Joyce Banda was sworn in as President, the Muslims in Mangochi confiscated beers and pork in shops and the matter was resolved amicably. new Billboard…the word testament now taken out…
