2020: After another donation earlier this year, Amitofo Care Center Malawi donated 200 face masks to Chiradzulu District Hospital Wednesday in response to the Covid-19 pandemic as the district hospital is in dire need of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Amitofo Care Centre Director, Josh Weng said his organization donated the items to complement government effort in the Covid 19 response to ensure that health workers, patients and guardians are protected from the pandemic.
“Considering that the hospital is a place where patients get medical assistance, it is our hope that these face masks will help prevent transmission,” he said during the handover of the items.
In another discussion, Weng noted that Chiradzulu District Hospital was in need of protective gloves and protective shoes.
He therefore assured the management that the center will donate gloves to Chiradzulu Health Office while the centre is discussing with donors on protective shoes donation.
Weng also pledged financial support to increase the hospital’s capacity to contain disease outbreaks and help in normal hospital operations.
Director of Health and Social Services, Jameson Chausa thanked the organization for the assistance saying that the pandemic has come with a lot of challenges which government alone cannot manage to resolve.
He added that health workers are among the risk group as such PPEs are in high demand among hospital workers during sample collection and when attending to Covid-19 patients.
Chausa assured the Amitofo Care Center Malawi that Chiradzulu District Hospital will give out Covid-19 updates and further promised to put the donated items to proper use.
The centre had made another donation earlier this year of 25 buckets of 20 litres each, 10 litres liquid ant bacteria soap and dispensers, 10 liquid soap in dispenser, 1 carton of 2ply face masks and 50 bottles of 100ml hand sanitizer worthy K1.2 million.
Amitofo Care Centre Malawi was founded in 2004 to take care of orphans and vulnerable children by providing them with education and support community based organizations within their area.
The organization is currently looking after 374 children from the Southern Region with financial support from the Republic of China (Taiwan), Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia among others.
