Attorney General Dr Chikosa Silungwe has disclosed that the Public Health (Corona Virus and Covid-19) Prevention, Containment and Management Rules, 2020, gazetted on Friday came to force on Saturday 8th August, 2020.
Silungwe made the statement earlier today at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
According to Silungwe, the rules contain general preventive measures to contain the escalation of Covid-19 like wearing face masks, provide for social distance of at least one metre from each other, washing hands with soap. He said gatherings of more than ten people will not be allowed except for national assembly and meetings to discuss Covid-19.
He also said that inline with new guidelines churches and mosques are not supposed to have over ten people in the same place. He was in the company of Presidential Taskforce Co-Chairpersons Hon Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda MP, Minister of Health and Dr John Phuka Minister of Information who is also government spokesperson Hon Gospel Kazako and Dr Charles Mwansambo Secretary for Health.
How ever a Civil Society Organization CDEDI said they will be moving a court for possible contempt of court against government, over the gazzete of the new COVID-19 regulations.
CDEDI argues that the government is implementing the measures similar to lockdown.
