The High Court in Blantyre has concluded hearing of the case in which three Malawi Congress Party parliamentary candidates in the May 21,2019 elections are challenging the results.
In the case, MCP candidates namely Enock Masautso Chizuze for Nsanje North Constituency is challenging the election of Esther Mcheka Chilenje of DPP, while Kafandikhale Mandevana for Nsanje Central is challenging Francis Kasaira of DPP and Foster Thomson Thipiwa who represented MCP in Chikwawa East during the elections is disputing results in which Rodrick Samu Khumbanyiwa of UDF emerged the winner.
During the hearing an application to have oral final submission by the lawyer representing the respondents was thrown out by the Court and has since given both parties 40 days to file their final submission.
The High Court is expected to give its direction on the date of passing judgment after receiving the final submission on September 28,2020. In an interview with our reporter, the lawyer representing the petitioners Mr. Webster Kosamu said he is happy with the progress in court and that he is optimistic that his clients will have justice by the end of the day.
