Lilongwe based non-governmental organisations [NGO] My Community My Responsibility [MCMR] in partnership with College of Medicine Youth Development members [COMYODS] on Saturday 29 donated assorted items to the elderly at Mgona community, in Lilongwe.
The elderly received sugar, laundry soap, and clothes while the orphans received stationery and clothes.
Speaking in an interview with My Community My Responsibility Executive director Brian Khembo said, today the rapid response initiative organised by my community my responsibility with the aim of addressing community impacts of Covid 19 .
Among others the initiative aims at giving awareness of Covid 19, its prevention and address the social economic impact of the pandemic by supporting the elderly with protective materials like Masks, sanitizer and food items. We believe that the pandemic can be eradicated if awereness and community prevention starts at the community level.
He added that most elderly lack information and financial support during this time. One of the beneficiaries, a 74 years old Charity Maulidi said the donation will help her and their families to fight against the virus and preventing them from infecting others.
Jotham Banda, The chief of the area, welcome the initiative by indicating that the elderly deserves a better care and don’t be taken for granted, they are also also normal human beings which needs the same opportunities like others. He asked the elderly to adhere to the measures and train others on how to prevent the pandemic.
