All is set for President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s first State of the Nation Address at the New Parliament
Building in Lilongwe, on Friday.
According to a program released by the National Assembly, President Dr Chakwera and Madam Monica Chakwera are expected to arrive at the Parliament’s Parade Ground at 9:45am, where the President will be met by Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani-Hara, Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda and Clerk of Parliament Fiona Kalemba.
President Chakwera will then inspect a guard of honour mounted by the Second Battalion of the Malawi Defence Forces (MDF) before proceeding to chamber. The Malawi leader is expected to deliver the SONA
at 10am.
Leader of Opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa is expected to officially respond to the President’s address on Monday followed by leaders of other opposition political parties present in parliament before opening the floor for general debate on the SONA.
Parliament will be sitting in Lilongwe for the 2020/2021 Financial Year budget presentation.
