The Regional Immigration Office (c) prosecution team in Lilongwe, on Wednesday took to court six foreign nationals on an offence of staying in the country without proper immigration papers.
According to Ealack Banda Regional Immigration publicist the six include two Indian nationals who were arrested at Crossroads Hotel, and four Zimbabweans who were netted at Universal Industries.
The Indians are Viral Hareshkumar Patel from Vadodara district, and Jayakumar Rajaram from
Madurai district in India.
The Zimbabweans are; Noel Chipofya from Kariba district, George Mututu from Rusaphe district, Leo Jeke from Murewa district, and Brighton Takudzwa Mukodza from Mutare district.
They were all taken to Nathenje First Grade Magistrate Court where Judge Mtalimanja has fined them K200,000.00 each or in default serve nine months in prison.
In a related case, Police have arrested Arij Masrul Siddiqui a Pakistani at Mgona near Kanengo on
September 11, 2020 and a Nigerian national Emekan Nwozu from Imo State who was picked in Area 36.
The two will be taken to court to answer charges of staying in the country illegally. Nwozu who was first taken to court on August 27, 2020, pleaded not guilty to the charges. He, however, changed his plea to guilty on Wednesday.
