Female pupils in Mangochi who have just completed writing Primary school Leaving Certificate Examination have been urged not to underrate themselves and also not to rush into marriages while waiting for the results.
Mangochi Deputy Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi made the call on the afternoon of Friday October 2, 2020 at St. Augustine 3 Primary school where pupils from Six different schools sat for their exams at the centre.
Daudi took advantage of the situation to address the young girls who have just completed their primary journey.
Among others she tackled issues of child marriages, early pregnancies, peer pressure, school drop outs, human trafficking and defilement cases.
“Due to the increase in child marriages and unplannedpregnancies during school closure due to Covid-19, I urge you to abstain and do not be afraid of reporting to the Police or any organizations that fight for rights of girl-child when your right is violated.Bear in mind that the journey is still long do not be discouraged, the road to success is not easy and marriage is not a solution” advised Daudi.
Daudi said that there are many challenges the girls might face in the world but they have to prepare and never undermine themselves. “Be inspired by successful women in the country and choose your idols. You are lucky Mangochi has so many organisations fighting for your rights; make use of these opportunities and never despair” added Daudi.
Speaking on behalf of the learners the youngest among the learners, 10-year-old Dorris Chimombo from Palmland Private School concurred with Daudi and encouraged her fellows to forge ahead in order to achieve their goals in life. “We will abide by your advice when go go back home” Said Chimombo.
