In a bid to assess the impact of COVID-19 countrywide and restrategise the national response
to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health in collaboration with Public Health Institute Malawi (Phim) has launched a survey that is expected to run from October 12.
The survey under the banner of Community and Facility Based Covid-19 Surveillance’, will be carried out in five selected districts of Mangochi, Karonga, Mzimba North, Blantyre and Lilongwe.
Laphiod Chisuwo, chief laboratory technologist on Thursday told Mzimba North district executive committee members that the survey seeks to assess the extent of the pandemic in the country.
“The survey aims at estimating the prevalence of COVID-19 in Malawi. The results will be taken into account in the COVID-19 national response,” said Chisuwo.
In her contribution, Grace Munthali, Mzimba North Acting Director of Health and Social Services said the survey is timely and will support efforts in combating the pandemic, which so far has killed 180 Malawians.
Several organisations are funding the survey including Norwegian Aid and the International
Training and Education Centre for Health among others.
