By now , pictures and videos of people digging inside a Catholic Cathedral of Lilongwe (Maula), specifically at St. Joseph adoration chapel have flooded the social media raising questions that Malawi Metro Chaweya Mzembe interprets.
According to Catholic doctrines, a Bishop who dies while still in office can be buried inside the church or at a special resting place specifically prepared for Bishops. Only retired Bishops are buried at places set aside for catholic priests and nuns.
Why did it not happen to Bishop Joseph Zuza who died in 2015 while serving as a bishop for Mzuzu Diocese?
This was not due to space as many people up to day think, but according to one Catholic priest in Mzuzu, it was the Bishop’s choice to be buried less than 30 meters away from St Peter’s cathedral, that is why Bishop Zuza was laid at that place.
Now, judging from the pictures, it is crystal clear that Reverend Tarcizio Gervazio Ziyaye, who was once the head of Catholic Church in Malawi will be the first Bishop in the country to be buried Inside Cathedral of Lilongwe.
Ziyaye’s remains are being expected to jet in today noon via Kamuzu International Airport ,and he is expected to be laid to rest on Saturday after a final Eucharist Celebration (Holy Mass) at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
Bishop Ziyaye was born on 19th May, 1949 at Khombe Village, Ludzi Parish, Mchinji District and died on 14 December while recieving treatment in Namibia.
