As others are looking for children’s others are trying to clinch the lives of the newly born baby.
Police in Mzimba are keeping Mestina Chirwa in custody for concealing birth of a baby the incidence occurred on January 02,2020 around 06:00HRS at RAIPLY health centre within the district.
Malawi Metro has established that a security guard under RAIPLY company, on January 01,2021 was on night duty and around 17:20HRS a lady(suspect) approached him and begged for a medical assistance on maternity issue.
The suspect was instructed to wait at the health centre for a medical doctor to take care of her.
Within five minutes the doctor came but the suspect was no where to be seen. Security guard, medical doctor and other guardians at the hospital tried to look for her but to no avail.
January 02,2021 at around 06:00 hrs a security guard was informed by one of the guardians that a newly born baby was crying in one of the hospital pit latrine.
Police from chikangawa police post received the shocking news and visited the scene where the baby was rescued from the toilet.
The baby was wrapped with a suspects browse and skirt . In the pit latrine a pair of slippers of suspect were found. Suspect was identified and arrested.
The baby was sent to Mzimba district hospital for medication . The suspect was also reffered to mzimba hospital for examination and treatment also to breastfeed a baby. Suspect will appear before court soon.
