Machinga Police Station in the just the ended year (2020) has managed to reduce road accidents by 26%.
According to road accidents report released by the Research and Planning Officer for Machinga Police Station, Inspector Damiano Paluma, in 2019 the station registered 114 road accidents as compared to 84 accidents registered in 2020 representing 26% decrease.
On criminal cases, the station suffered a blow as it registered 1, 351cases in 2020 as compared to 1, 292 cases registered in 2019 representing 5% increase.
The report also shows that sexual offences have increased by 30 % after the station registered 160 cases in 2020 as compared to 123 in 2019.
Sensitization meetings which are frequently conducted in rural areas attributed to increase in reported criminal and sexual offences for the community are aware of the cases hence reporting them to police.
Police in the district are assuring the community members of maximum safety and security in 2021.
The police further appeals to the community to continue with community policing activities to keep criminals at bay.
