Minister of Education Agnes NyaLonje says 11 out of the 34 education districts under her Ministry have been hit by COVID-19.
NyaLonje disclosed this Thursday during a news conference in Lilongwe.
She said in the affected districts either a member of staff or learners tested positive for Coronavirus.
The Minister said that a total of 136 students at Lilongwe Girls Secondary School have tested positive for the virus, seconded by six who have been registered at Kaseye Secondary School in Chitipa district.
In institutions of higher learning which include both public and private establishments, 18 students have tested positive.
“Seven lecturers have tested positive. Out of these, unfortunately, three have died.
“Today, COVID-19 has claimed 10 lives. About 500 have tested positive for the coronavirus in the past 24 hours,” said Nyalonje.
Minister of Information Gospel Kazako echoed remarks by the Co-Chairperson for the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 to strictly adhere to all prevention measures as guided by Ministry Health.
The Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 will keep updating the Nation on the prevailing developments of the pandemic.
