A magistrate in Kasungu has ordered eight people jailed seven for four years and one for 14 years for producing and being found in possession of fake currency.
The eight were convicted for being found with counterfeit K2, 000 notes to the fake value of K392,000 and counterfeit dollar bills to the fake value of 99,400 US dollars.
Senior Resident Magistrate Biar Kamanga says he has slapped David Shumba with a 14- year-jail term because he was found with materials used to manufacture fake currency.
The seven others will served four years in jail and these are Filodi Goodson Filimon Jere, Ibrahim Makina, Martha Makonde Nyirenda, Lameck Banda Gerald Banda, Alick Tchuma and Laston Msiska.
Magistrate Kamanga says such offences could have a negative effect on the economy.
