Government through the Ministry of Health has granted a waiver to all nursing training colleges in the country to continue with their studies amid school closure for the two weeks.
In a letter dated January 6 2021, addressed to the presidents of National Organization of Nurses and Midwives in Malawi (NONM) and Association of Malawian Midwives (AMAMI) signed by Principal Secretary for Health, Dr Charles Mwansambo, which has been copied to Ministry of Education, The Principals in all Nursing and Midwifery Training Colleges, among others, which Malawi Metro online has in possession says the waiver follows a request by NONM and AMAMI on February 4 2021.
Dr Mwansambo however said the waiver applies only to all final year students in the nursing schools.
He has since urged the nursing schools to adhere to all the Covid-19 preventative measures and work with health officials on the same.
The waiver comes barely days after government extended the schools closure period for another two weeks. Due to the surge in the Covid-19 virus in the country.
As this is like that a grouping called concerned students in Malawi has arranged demonstrations probing government over the extension of school holiday with extra two weeks.
The demonstration are scheduled for 12 February in all the major cities of the country.
