One of the county’s major beer brewing companies Castel Malawi Limited has temporarily suspended the production of its spirits beer over persistent shortage of forex in the country.
The spirits include Malawi Gin, Premier Brandy and Malawi Vodka.
In a statement the company’s management says, the situation will now lead to the shortage of the mentioned spirits on the market.
“The business is currently failing to bring in packaging materials to sustain the supply of these loved spirit brands.
“Coupled with the high excise rates spirits attract (110%) that push the prices up, the temporary suspension of production becomes the only decision for the business in the current environment,” reads part of the statement.
The Company has advised its regular customers that more favourable conditions will be in place to restart the production of these iconic and exportable products.
