Authorities at the University of Malawi (UNIMA) have announced temporarily closure of the institution today 2nd November 2022 with immediate effect.
This is due to an on-going stalemate between the students through Students Representative Council (SRC) and school management over an academic calendar which students are protesting, and want it revised.
A Memo dated 2nd November 2022, addressed to the students, signed by the University Acting Registrar, Mary Wasiri, states that the vigils which students have been conducting pose a security threat to the University community, and general public, hence the closure.
Students have since been advised to vacate the campus by noon today.
