The Chikwawa Police are keeping in custody a 26–year– old Richard Ligodo and a 42 year-old Frank Ellias, for allegedly stealing the irrigation hose pipes and sprinklers at the Illovo sugarcane field worth amount at K798,000.00.
The Police received a report about a series of theft involving irrigation equipment that occured during the night of 18 and 19 June 2023.
In a prompt response, the Chikwawa police detectives launched an intelligence driven operation that successfully led to the arrest of Ligodo and Ellias.
During interrogation, the two suspects voluntarily admitted to have been stealing the irrigation equipment. Following this, the detectives made a follow-up to Thyolo on 22 June 2023 where hose pipes and 2 sprinklers which have been certified to belong to Illovo were recovered.
Meanwhile, the suspects are in custody and investigations are underway for further arrests.
Both Richard Ligodo and Frank Ellias hail from Kabayi Village, Traditional Authority Mphuka in Thyolo District.
