Ministry of Agriculture and Food Inputs Programme (AIP) which has replaced Farm Input Subsidy Programme (FISP) will benefit 4.2 Million farming households in the country.
Addressing the media in Lilongwe this afternoon the Minister of Agriculture Irrigation and Water Development, Lobin Lowe said AlP aims to enable Malawians attain food security at household and national levels and reduce poverty.
He said the programme will increase access to quality and improved farm inputs such as fertilizer and maize seed. Each farming household will access two bags of fertilizer at MK4, 495 each with a five kilogram certified seed at K2000.
The program will use national identity cards. Public and private fertilizer and seed suppliers will be engaged through open tendering process.
