Malawi State President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has implored men in the country to take COVID-19 preventive measures seriously as statistics indicate a higher percentage of men being infected than women.
The President made the call at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe in a weekly radio broadcast programme called Malawi Wa Tsopano.
Since the country registered its three COVID-19 cases in April this year a number of interventions have been put in place to curb further spread of the pandemic which has taken a huge toll on world economies Malawi inclusive.
Months down the line of managing the virus, information is emerging that male folk is not taking preventive measures seriously.
In the latest weekly radio address, the Malawi leader has urged men in this country not to shun laid down guidelines on COVID-19 prevention as the virus respects no masculinity.
“I would like to appeal to all men in this country to adhere to set COVID-19 prevention guidelines. Often times men ignore such basic safety measures, however let me underscore that this novel Coronavirus respects no gender. By following these health guidelines, you are not only protecting yourself but also those you love. Currently statistics indicate that seven out of 10 people who contract COVID-19 are men,” said Chakwera.
The President has once again reminded the nation that its only through following basic prevention set
standards that if followed religiously will help in containing the virus.
“We have reached a point where we are double sure that the best way to curb COVID-19 is just consistent adherence to set guidelines such as wearing a mask at all times in public spaces, washing hands with soap and observing social distance,” said the President.
The novel Coronavirus was discovered last year in Wuhan City in China and has spread across the globe. Through strict health guidelines the pandemic is gradually coming under control with most countries easing lockdown measures to open up their economies.
