The country’s First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera today received a donation of 100, 000 face masks from the People’s Republic of China meant to be distributed to vulnerable primary and secondary school students across the country in the wake of schools reopening.
The Chinese government has also donated MK20 million towards Madame Chakwera’s Shaping Our Future Foundation to help boost her initiative of promoting the vulnerable girl child’s education.
Appreciating the donation, the First Lady said the masks would help bring a conducive and stabilized learning environment where teachers will confidently execute their duties knowing the students are safe.
She however said demand for Personal Protective Equipment is huge and that there is need for more wellwishers to emulate China’s gesture.
She also appreciated the MK 20 million donation saying it would help relieve the foundation’s
financial pressure in efforts to help the vulnerable girl child complete her education.
China has since pledged continued support towards the foundation.
