Musicians in the country have expressed shock over government’s decision to limit public gatherings to less than 100 people with an aim of curbing the spread of Covid19.
Among others, Presidential taskforce on Covid19 on Tuesday announced that public gatherings are trimmed to 100 people , a development that has come as a shock to musicians.
According to Gloria Manong’a, President for Musician Union of Malawi, the restrictions will affect musicians who were already booked for music shows .
“It’s a thing that will affect us alot, considering the fact that we have already lined up shows , government must find another way,” said Manong’a For example, currently, reports suggest that over 700 tickets are already sold for Kellkay’s show that is slated for 26 and 27 December at BICC and Comesa hall, respectively.
The show brings together, the sweetest cream of Malawi Music -Eli ,Toast, Lulu Gwamba,Charisma, Tay Grin and the leading south african vocalist Mlindo.
Meanwhile, organizers of Tour De lake Malawi 2020 have announced that the 10 day mobile festival along the lake has been postponed to March 24, 2021.
The decision has been made in order to adhere to the Covid-19 restrictions set by the government .
According to one of the organizer, Prince Chokhotho they have already used 12 million kwacha for bookings and logistics.
