Bvumbwe residents and police on Monday engaged in running battles over the death of a man who was allegedly shot dead by the police.
According to an eye witness, the man was shot on the chest as the officers were trying to handcuff him over an unknown crime.
Another witness said in the course of fleeing the scene a police officer also shot another male civilian.
Currently police have fired teargas and anti-riot police have moved in to quell the situation as communities are stoning the police station.
James Kadadzera, Malawi Police Service publicist, says he is yet to get information about the incident.
In 2018 hell broke loose at the same trading centre after police officers beat up a cyclist for crossing the roadblock without their authority.
Onlookers thought the police exercised unnecessary force and in retaliation torched the police station.
