A local Non Governmental Organization under the Youth Rehabilitation and Empowerment Network (YOREN) in conjunction with Blantyre Water Board planted trees along the Mudi dam in Blantyre, Ndirande township.
The activity saw more than 20 Youths mobilising more that 250 tree seedlings to partake in this environmental management scheme as away of replenishing trees to save the country from the hazards on environmental degradation.
Project Director for the NGO Nelson Chaweya Mzembe expressed excitement over the youth initiative as he said most youths are staying idle with no activity to keep them pre-occupied.
“As a YOREN we are geared to take part in environmental management so that we store our country’s Lost Glory from the calamities brought about by deforestation such as Global warming,floods and power harvests just to mention a few” Mzembe stressed.
On her part Blantyre Water board environmentalist Monica Lakion hailed the young people and encouraged then to be environmental councious at all times.
“We are very impressed with the Youths of YOREN for coming out in large numbers to support the Presidential initiative of tree planting and environmental management” Lakion emphasised.
Meanwhile the she asked the Youths to re visit the site and an help in removing bushes that may affect tree growth during this rainy season.
