President Lazarus Chakwera has revealed to Malawians that over K6.2 billion covid-19 funds, which the Treasury disbursed last year to some government departments can not be accounted for.
Addressing Malawians this evening on Covid-19 status in the country through Television briefing, Chakwera said the development is warrisome and that he will not allow a single Covid-19 Kwacha to go missing.
Chakwera said he has since summoned those controlling officers, who failed to bring a report to appear before his taskforce committee on Covid-19 to explain how they used the money.
On Covid-19 vaccine, Chakwera said the Astrazeneca vaccine which Malawi will import has between 60-70 efficacy.
Although Chakwera said the vaccine efficacy can not be enough, but he is sure that many lives will be saved.
Meanwhile, President Chakwera has also disclosed that over K2.2 billion has been donated to government from local private companies, to help in combating the virus.
