Minister of Health Kumbize Kandodo Chiponda says government is happy on how the country is responding to Covid-19 infection rate. Her remarks comes as the Country has recorded major drop rate of the virus.
In the past 24 hours, Malawi has registered 158 new COVID-19 cases, 53 new recoveries, 15 new deaths. Of the new cases, 156 are locally transmitted: 54 from Blantyre, 50 from
Lilongwe, 13 from Mzimba North, four each from Mangochi, Chitipa, Ntcheu, Phalombe, and Salima, three each from Ntchisi and Thyolo, two each from Kasungu, Mchinji, Mulanje, and Nkhotakota, and one each from Chiradzulu, Karonga, and Machinga Districts while two of the new cases are imported and are new arrivals at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa District.
In the past 24 hours, 15 new COVID-19 deaths have been registered:
five from Blantyre, two each from Lilongwe and Zomba, and one each from Dedza, Ntcheu, Salima, Mulanje, Chiradzulu, and Ntchisi Districts. To the bereaved families, may you find

Cumulatively, Malawi has recorded 29,035 cases including 952 deaths (Case Fatality Rate is at 3.3%). Of these cases, 2,019 are imported infections and 27,016 are locally transmitted.
Cumulatively, 13,607 cases have now recovered, 134 were lost to follow-up, and 76 are still being investigated to ascertain their outcome. This brings the total number of active cases to 14,266. In the past 24 hours, 20 cases were hospitalised while 17 were discharged.
Currently, a total of 171 active cases are hospitalised: 52 in Blantyre, 39 in Lilongwe, 20 in Mzimba North, nine in Zomba, seven in Karonga, six in Thyolo, five each in Dowa and Mulanje, four each in Mchinji and Chiradzulu, three in Ntcheu, two each in Machinga, Chitipa, Rumphi, Dedza, Kasungu, Salima, and Mwanza, and one each from Nkhata Bay, Mzimba South, Mangochi, Chikwawa, and Nsanje Districts. On testing, in the past 24 hours, 963 COVID-19 tests were conducted. Of these, 414 tests were through SARS-COV-2 Antigen Rapid Diagnostic test
while the rest were through RT-PCR. The positive cases out of the total translates to a positivity rate of 16.4%. Cumulatively, 171,195 tests have been conducted in the country so far.
“We are still reporting new COVID-19 confirmed cases, admissions and deaths on daily basis, the cumulative number of confirmed cases have surpassed 29,000, this indicates that the virus is still spreading among us. In order to reduce the spread of the disease in our midst, it is important that we identify by testing those that have the disease, isolate them, provide appropriate care depending on the severity of the disease. The contacts of the confirmed cases have to be tested as well and should quarantine for 14 days.
It is important to report for medical screening if you show any COVID-19 symptoms and the most common symptoms include fever, dry cough, tiredness while some patients will present with aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhoea and conjunctivitis.
