Vice President Saulos Chilima has called for huge investments in the health sector if the country is to achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030. Chilima made the remarks during the commemoration of International Nurses Day in Lilongwe.
“Nurses have sacrificed alot in the health system of this country amidst Covid-19. You risked your own lives to save others,'” he said. He added that there is need for proper reforms in the health sector.
“It is high time we started investing in the country’s health sector, we should not be treating some referral diseases outside the country as is the case now,” Chilima said.
He said government will soon recruit more nurses and midwives and acquire more Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
President of National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives (Nonm) Shouts Simeza said health personnel faced alot of challenges that led to 21 deaths of nurses.
