Police in Chikwawa have arrested Patrick Matchado aged 35, of Kadulira Village Traditional Authority Ngabu for allegedly murdering his parents. Chikwawa Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Dickson Matemba has confirmed the arrest saying the suspect Matchado allegedly killed his parents Frank Matchado aged 56, and Nakiyera Chinkobwe aged 53, both from Kadulira Village Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikwawa District on the night of 24 October 2022.
On the said night, Matchado stormed into his parents’ house, accusing them of bewitching his two children and brother, who died sometime back. He stabbed both of them with a knife and immediately escaped, leaving them dead. The two were found dead in the following morning. Postmortem examination carried out by Nkumaniza Health Centre officials confirmed that deaths were caused due to loss of blood as a result of deep wounds. Following the incident, police officers under Criminal Investigation Department (CID) launched a manhunt which led to the arrest on 30 October, 2022.
Matchado has been charged with murder and will appear in court soon to answer the charge.
