A 15 years old boy Happy John has drowned in flooded Lirangwe River in the early hours of 31st January 2023. Chiradzulu Police Station Public Relations Officer, Constable Cosmas Kagulohas confirmed the development saying that the parents of Happy left their son home and went to Mbulumbuzi Market to sell their produce.
Instead of getting prepared to go to school, Happy went to the mentioned river with his friends.Whilst swimming, the boy was overcomed by the water current and got drowned.
Rather than making preparations to attend school, Happy decided to accompany his friends to the specified river. Unfortunately, while swimming, the boy was overtaken by the powerful water current and subsequently drowned.
Following this incident, his friends notified the reporter who reported the matter to Namadzi Police post.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personel, in the company of clinical officer, visited the scene and revealed that death was due to suffocation secondary drowning.
Meanwhile, no foul play suspected and the body has been ordered for burial.
Chiradzulu Police is therefore urging people to refrain from swimming or bathing in rivers despite the state of the rivers as it is as rivers may get full to avoid such cases.
The deceased was from Chumachiyenda village Traditional Authority Chitera in Chiradzulu District.
