President Lazarus Chakwera has admitted that the country’s economy is in bad shape without much hope in sight.
His remarks came when he opened parliament today in the morning at parliament building in Lilongwe
Chakwera, who says he has brought both bad news and good news has attributed the bad shape of the economy to the impact of climate change (storms) which has led to the destruction of infrastructure and electricity generation capacity.
He says, fuel shortage in the past months has also affected the economy as industries resorted to use of ‘expensive’ diesel for their manufacturing purposes.
President Chakwera says his urgent task and top priority is to restructure the economy to create food security, wealth and accelerate the implementarion of Sustainable Development Goals.
He says his government will also work hard to cushion poor Malawians.
During the SONA opposition MPS were seen wearing sack sewn clothes as a way of showing disatisfaction on how this year’s fertilizer input program has been a failure.
During the Proceedings opposition MPS were seen hurling insults at the president as he was making his SONA a development which prompted the speaker Catherine Gotani hara to chase out parliament some opposition Legislators.
