Police in Chikwawa have launched a manhunt for attackers who brutally murdered a Group Village Headman at Jombo area in the district.
District Police spokespeeon Sergeant Dickson Matemba says the slain chief has been identified as a 73-year-old Robert Laiton from Laiton Village, under Traditional Authority Ngabu in Chikwawa.
“According to family members, Laiton left his home on June 15, 2023, to attend a meeting aimed at identifying a suitable location for drilling a community borehole within the village. However, he did not return until the following day when he was discovered lifeless, lying in a pool of blood.
“Upon receiving the report, Nchalo Police CID personnel, accompanied by a medical practitioner from Nchalo Health Centre, promptly arrived at the crime scene,” said Matemba.
Police say after conducting a postmortem examination, it was revealed that severe head injuries were the cause of death.
